Icelandic songwriter Inki goes dark on This One For Me

Hailing from the Nordic outpost of Iceland, Inki creates a brand of avant-pop that is difficult to qualitate. Haunting, interesting, and resolute, her sound posses a sweeping dichotomy that feels appropriate for the plains or the club floor, an undeniably Scandinavian talent.

There were only 12 cells in this Prison, even so, there were not enough female inmates in Iceland to fill them all - so The Female Prison was a mixed gender prison - and that is why I interviewed both men & women for this piece.I didn’t ask them about their crimes, how they got there wasn’t the point.Brotabrot questions the relationship between entertainment & incarceration, blending together people’s worst moments with a dance track - dance while you listen to other people’s worst moments.It is a memory piece of this former prison. It starts with a field recording from the prison yard where you can hear children playing in the next door kindergarten.Gradually, it builds up, a beat starts pulsing while listening to an inmate tell a story of how his father loved to torture him. It led to him being homeless at only 6 years old.While another former inmate repeats the hook “love of my life, bad guy” - a reason she ended up in this white house.Now as a part of @hamraborg_festival anyone who is strolling past the prison can scan the sign and listen to Brotabrot.You can also just find it on Spotify#music #soundart #soundpiece #art #fieldrecording #musician #musiclife #Iceland

This used to be a sound & 360 video installation, meaning videos on all walls around the audience and sound coming from many speakers around the room.I had never played it life, but when @caudacollective strings became a part of the set I got this tickle in my stomach that I had to give it a shot to rearrange it and make a life version.The version of Quite the Situation you can listen to on Spotify is a little more calm and doesn’t have the speaking audio bit - a bit more neoclassical feelThe speaking audio bit is Hermamm Jónasson, Iceland’s former Prime Minister, announcing that the British army has invaded Iceland in the Second World War.The footage I got from The Iceland Film Archive, they were too kind to help me dig up some old videos for this project#livemusic #concert #musician #liveshow #music #instrumental #livesound
