My name is Inki (known as Ingibjörg Friðriksdóttir to my parents and postman) and I’m one of those weird Icelandic musicians you might have fantasized about. Don’t ask me if I believe in elves though–there are others that can introduce you to them. I am more passionate about pushing the boundaries of composition to merge visual elements with music.
I have fused house beats with the oral history of a defunct prison (Brotabrot) and Iceland’s WWII slut-shaming with a composition performed by contemporary female instrumentalists (Quite the Situation).
Once, I created a self-playable chordophone instrument playing earthquake data– only to destroy it after a tour to Denmark (Underground). And then there was the time I produced a bass-heavy beat–sampling keys and clocks–to compliment an inmate’s story about life on death row (60 seconds remaining, podcast). This led to my involvement in the first-ever album released from prison (San Quentin Mixtape).
Currently, I am working on a new album called Thoughts Midsentence. This time, I am heading into new territory–something you could call Avant-Pop, Alternative, or Experimental Pop. Expect a bass-heavy experimental production, uniting unexpected aural elements with my vocals. The second single, Destructive Interference, is out on 5th of May 2023.
My compositions have been performed widely, in Europe and the United States, and I have even received composition awards.
